Creative branding for England's biggest arts festival
How does Brighton Festival evoke the spirit of its Guest Director?
Aung San Suu Kyi was invited to be Guest Director of Brighton Festival. We created an image that suggested her spiritual presence (she was unable to attend in person) in Brighton for the Festival.
Inspired by the ethereal quality of analogue photography and cinema, we created a double-exposure treatment of the Aung San Suu Kyi portrait against one of our own photographs of the fittingly Asian-influenced Royal Pavilion in Brighton.
The final image creates an uplifting message of celebration and liberty. For the Brighton Festival logotype we subtly tweaked the font ‘Progress’ to reflect the shapes that are found in Burmese typography.
